The Filming Process

gif creator

Above are the images we have produced of our process during filming and during creating our ancillary task. The snow shots of the two boys compared to the park shots show the development between locations and band members. This pictures also show the different shot types we approached as a group during this period. For example, the high angle shot of Jamie lip syncing up toward the camera compared to the mid shot in the snow shows how we wanted a range of shot types for our music video. The equipment has also developed as you can see in the snow shots we used a tripod and HD camera whereas in the park shot to make it easier we used a fig rig to help track backs and steadier shots when the band are moving toward the camera. In the images of us working on our ancillary we were improving the board by making it more colourful and adding the band name which would later on become our advertisement:

Using certain editing techniques we were able to make the chalkboard look more creative and 'band like' compared to our old advertisement when we merged the bands faces together in a pattern. We have improved the advertisement since this one by changing the font and the positioning of some of the text to make it look more realistic and professional.

Overall, during our construction process of both ancillary and music video task we have improved this and when we reshoot, we will show development in reshooting and equipment.

ancillary progress

Throughout the weeks we have made a huge progress in our ancillary task from the feedback we were given from our teachers. They told us to add more songs and maybe add a little bit the band would say in the blank spaces, we tried this and we think that this looks okay but we may have to work on it a little longer and maybe make them shorter. Adding a band message in will connect with the audience more and make them feel like the band is making the album especially for them. We also added a few more songs and some more important detail underneath explaining the record company including 'The Bandits' official website. We may have to reshoot some of the singular images because Ben and Jamie need to look far ahead and not into the camera so it makes them all look like a band and they are not out of place. The front cover is successful and no feedback has been said for that.

Music Video Rough Edit

Filming our music video.

The pictures above are images which I took when we were filming on the Monday. Because the weather was so poor we couldn't orginally film in the place we wanted to and another member of our band was missing. The shots above we took from a mid shot of the boys building a snowman and lip syncing along. These shots are a great advantage to our work and we will use them effectively in our music video.

Our original idea.

Inspiration for ancillary task.

The triangles and colours for our ancillary task we got from Gotye's video - Somebody that I used to know. The coloured triangles on his face gave us the idea to use this but with brighter colours on the boys bodies for our ancillary and we used the hoodie for Jamie to make him stand out through the two other band members. The chalk heading also links back to the advertisement and the inside of the digi pack as well as the bright colours relating to the chalk. This was our best idea because we feel that it gives off more of a unique image and makes it seem more indie compared to the original ancillary which we had shown.

Showing development on Ancillary.

These pictures are an example of our development for our ancillary task for draft 2. Carrying on with the chalk idea we have taken these pictures of us as a group developing the colours on the chalkboard and adding 'The bandits' to it so we could use it for our advertisement. During the progress we were covered in chalk a numerous amount but we enjoyed drawing images and and writing lyrics and words related to our band and album not forgetting our album name Zoey. We decided to call our album name Zoey because I think from looking at other indie bands, some of them have named their album after a girlfriend, friend, wife or someone they are proud of. We went with this idea to extend our own knowledge and ideas from our original album name 'Pelican',

Development in Ancillary Task

Below, you can see the progress in which our group made throughout our production process of creating the advertisement for our band The Bandits- Zoey. Our original idea which is the yellow background with the mixed faces was okay but we didnt put that much effort into it.  We got this inspiration from Kings of Leons album cover in which they put the bands faces together to create this unique and strange look. However, after much umming and ahhing in the group we came up with an idea of using chalk and scribbles in different colours to relate to the bands colourful and unique nature. Our new advertisement which is the other image with bright colours is a better idea and links well with our album cover below and how we used these colours to represent each member of the band.

Digi-Pack
Looking at the development between our CD digi pack and our advertisement put together, we have related the chalk and bright colours by using the boys faces to paint aztec looking shapes on them. With Jamie being in the middle in a bright green hoodie, the audience can see that he is the main character in the band and the other two are drum and bass players. In contrast to our original idea of using the hands on a colourful card background, we have still used the idea of colours but instead of paper, transfered it to a chalkboard. The back of the album cover is related to a chalkboard with the song list and the bands faces represent the importance of them and how jamie is looking into the camera and the others aren't.
